How Big Things Get Done

Having a passion for personal growth and development is the catalyst to achieving unprecedented success. One of my favorite ways to explore new concepts and expand my mind is by diving into a good book. I recently read “How Big Things Get Done: The Surprising Factors That Determine the Fate of Every Project, from Home Renovations to Space Exploration and Everything In Between,” by Bent Flyvbjerg and Dan Gardner, and it was a fascinating page-turner!

I strongly recommend this book to those looking to find deeper meaning in life’s lessons and the meticulous (and sometimes mundane) aspects of everyday life. Flyvbjerg and Gardner gave great insight into the idea that “man plans and God laughs,” meaning that most of the time, the biggest plans and visions turn into nightmares. However, the same can be said about modern miracles. Take the Empire State Building, for example, which transformed the NYC skyline and became an iconic part of the city in only 21 months.

If we are to take advice about ideas and project alignment, listening to author and Oxford professor Bent Flyvbjerg, the world’s leading megaproject expert, is a wonderful place to start. He and Gardner discuss some of the world’s most significant business ventures and their pathway to success or demise. This book will help leaders learn to identify and avoid the errors in judgment and decision-making that lead to project failure.

Regardless of your industry or area of expertise, “How Big Things Get Done” will help you understand your odds, identify valid steps to reach objectives, be a team-maker, and many more transformational tips. Through literature, we can discover new perspectives, cultures, ideas, and philosophies. Take the time to learn something new today!
