The Way of Nagomi: The Japanese Philosophy of Finding Balance and Peace in Everything You Do

Spending time in nature is an essential part of my life that allows me to reset, recharge, and function as my best and most grounded self. Unfortunately, as societies increasingly turn toward technology for connection, information, and daily activities, many people have lost the innate desire and need to bond with the outdoors. I have found that actively practicing mindfulness when I immerse myself in nature is an incredibly powerful tool to gain clarity and reconnect with what really matters. Mindfulness meditation helps me make decisions, find innovative solutions, and recharge my energy to understand and assess my own feelings and those of others.

I recently read the book, “The Way of Nagomi: The Japanese Philosophy of Finding Balance and Peace in Everything You Do,” by Ken Mogi. It was an inspiring read that reminded me of how vital it is to spend time doing the activities outdoors that I enjoy, like meditation and sports. The book focuses on the Japanese ideology that gives you the power to embrace every challenge life brings you in order to live in peace and harmoniously. It was a very insightful read into adapting to the fluctuations we experience, whether that be working on having happy relationships with loved ones who disagree, accepting imperfections, striking a better life balance, and more.

I definitely recommend this book to everyone, as it relates to our natural-born need to connect with nature. It has been widely proven that engaging in physical activity throughout the day can be incredibly beneficial for your body and mind, so take this book and moment as an opportunity to take a walk outdoors, find a nice quiet place, and start to read and take the first steps toward reconnection with our precious planet.

You don’t even have to go very far to find nature, it can be found in even the biggest and cities – if you know where to look!
